It affects the experiencers life, health, happiness, emotional stability, self worth, energy, how it affects their work and disrupts relationships. It truly can unsettle a persons life. There is hope and a novel treatment called Ketamine infusion.
OCD is part of the anxiety of mental health issues. It is very important to be aware that the management of anxiety at the core level will need to be initially addressed, so that the subsequent secondary condition of OCD is actually possible.
The Wealth Health Organization reports that Globally 1 in 13 individuals will suffer from an anxiety disorder. We are delighted to share with you advances we are making in novel medications for those not helped by standard treatments. OCD is severe 1 in 7 adults with OCD will attempt suicide in their lifetime. Standard treatments like medications and cognitive behavioral therapy help about half the patients. Unfortunately there is a long lag time of 2-3 months before patients experience significant benefit. Complete benefit is not common.
How Ketamine helps with OCD
OCD causes a hyper-active thought control circuit without a stop signal. Patients without a stop signal are bombarded with OCD thoughts. Glutamate is the main chemical messenger that’s involved nerve cell communication. Too much glutamate may lead to self hyperactivity.
How can we modulate
the Glutamate in the brain?
There is a compound called Ketamine and it blocks Glutamate imports. Low doses of Ketamine had been shown to be safe and effective to treat major depression. In a single low dose of Ketamine, Patients reported complete sedation of their OCD. This is remarkable.
Results with Ketamine infusion therapy
After a single Ketamine Infusion, a patient reported that the weight of OCD has been lifted. This is exciting because this is the first time a drug had a rapid affects in OCD. Ketamine works differently from OCD medication. It opens up new lines of investigation for drug development.
